But most of all, it opens doors to more resources and opportunities, and it’s what they do with those opportunities that can have a positive impact.įor me, it was a ticket to getting access to better schools, more engaged teachers, and higher quality education.Ī teacher pushed for a few of us to get tested, despite the admin ignoring her. College and grad school was easy as pie for me. I’m very analytical by nature (INTP) and enjoyed building and fixing things as a kid, but as I got older and my ADD traits influenced my academic performance, I lost confidence. I was the daydreamer and got distracted easily. I was a bright and capable student, but my ADD made it a challenge. I think that is more individual and a product of one’s environment and whether critical and creative thinking were encouraged. The two don’t necessarily go hand in hand, however. ![]() My now-husband is big on self-education and has a passion for learning and intellectual curiosity. He was a GATE student, as was my ex-husband (VA Governor’s School). ![]() My husband and I have discussed this at length.
